While good policy is neither a Republican nor Demorcrat issue, I have always been proud of my conservative beliefs and I will continue to represent Nebraska values in Washington D.C.

With the price of oil hitting new highs almost every day – and some analysts saying the price could hit $150 a barrel in the next few weeks – the possibility of $5.00 a gallon for gasoline is not out of the realm of possibility.

How high does it have to go and how much pain do families have to endure before the Democrats in Congress and their extreme environmental allies get out of the way and allow us to explore our domestic resources – such as Alaska oil fields and the vast oil shale in the western United States?

The simple truth of the matter is, we could bring down the price of fuel if we could use common sense and grant environmentally responsible access to the resources we have right here within our borders.

As a member of the House Natural Resources Committee and a member of the Western Caucus, I am committed to working with my colleagues to enact a well balanced energy policy

We need to enact a comprehensive energy policy designed to boost domestic supplies of all forms of energy in an environmentally-safe way, promote new, clean, and reliable sources of energy such as advanced nuclear and clean-coal technology, wind, solar and hydroelectric power.

I have been advocating for policy which would promote alternative and renewable fuels, harness technologies already being employed successfully throughout the world, and unlock America’s natural energy resources through the responsible exploration of oil and gas in the United States.

When families are paying $4.00 a gallon for fuel – and soon perhaps $5.00 a gallon – it isn’t just an inconvenience. It is an unnecessary and unacceptable ‘tax’ taking food off tables and costing people their jobs.

I was pleased to receive the sole endorsement for the upcoming primary election.

But, even more, I was glad the World Herald made it a point to single out my staff (most of which are from Nebraska’s Third District). They are hard working, and a credit to Nebraska. The Third District is well served by my staff, and it meant a lot to see their efforts and impact acknowledged in the endorsement editorial.

It’s a common refrain — elections should be about issues.

Unfortunately, elections often devolve into mud slinging fests and name calling.

Today, I want to pledge to all Nebraskans my campaign will focus on where I stand on the issues.

On energy, we need to diversify our energy portfolio and explore domestic resources — reducing our reliance on foreign sources of energy. To that end, I have sponsored an amendment to increase research into biofuels and have voted against taxing domestic energy producers.

Though we are facing difficult times, our country’s economy is better off without government intervention or increased taxes. I am proud to say the U.S. Chamber of Commerce has agreed with me, and I have recently recieved their endorsement.

The Second Amendment must be protected, and sportsmen should have the freedom to enjoy a fall hunt without onerous regulations or stipulations. My dedication to the rights of gun owners has led to the endorsement from the NRA.

My commitment to common sense, Nebraska values — that human life is precious and not a ‘choice’ — has earned the endorsement of Nebraska Right to Life.

Welcome to my campaign website. I’m looking forward to using this venue as a way to keep in contact with voters in my district, to make sure you know how to help out my campaign, and share some of the stories as we go through this election season together.

It has been an exhilarating 16 months since Nebraskans overwhelmingly elected me to represent them in Washington D.C. I have met with hundreds and hundreds of great people as I traveled through the district.

Not everybody agrees with me. And I welcome the debate. Despite the reputation for being a “red state,” I have found Nebraskans march to their own drummer, using their ideals and values as their guide…not party platforms.

And I feel we are stronger because of this. Over the next few months I look forward to meeting with as many people as possible, both on the campaign trial and during official Congressional business.

Sincerely,
